About Joan Liu
Joan Liu’s expertise is in working with high-need international students seeking financial aid to US universities & colleges. She’s interested in equity, access, diversity, and inclusion to US higher education.
She’s currently a University Advisor in the International College Counseling Office at the United World College of South East Asia, East Campus in Singapore.
She’s served as mentor on UK’s Sutton Trust US Programme, run by Fulbright US-UK Commission. This program supports the most academically talented, but most economically disadvantaged students in the UK, helping them to gain admission and financial aid to US higher education.
She currently serves as 1st VP for Inclusion, Access, and Success for International Association for College Admission Counseling, and sits on the Executive Board. Joan also launched a cohort scholarship program for high impact counselors working with high achieving, low income international students from under-represented regions. This program received “Rising Star” recognition at the National Association of College Admission Counseling.
Prior to this, Joan served as VP of Professional Development, and helped launch the pre-conference Institutes on Admission, College Counseling, and Financial Aid. The International ACAC annual conference is held in July and this is a wonderful organization to be a part of if you are a college counselor or admissions officer working with international students.
